Facebook & IM

The SNS juggernaut known as Facebook is going to get an interesting upgrade this week with a chat application similar to an instant messenger.  I have a feeling this will surpass any other other IM service, in terms of networking.  While its features may not compare to those offered with AIM, the convenience and ease of communicating with people will be much better.  I have friends on Facebook who do not enjoy IM services like Yahoo! and AIM, but are constantly on Facebook all the time.  To keep in contact with them, the chat feature will serve a wonderful purpose.  The closest thing to this new addition was the message function, but it acts like e-mail and you have to constantly refresh the page to see if you have any new messages.  We’ll have to see how well this new feature goes over with the Facebook community and see if it has any staying power.
