Chess to Help Build Critical Thinking Skills

There is a pilot program in Idaho for 2nd & 3rd graders that will start implementing a chess curriculum that will include elements of history, math, and vocabulary in it.  Chess is a game that requires players to use some strategy to find the best way to capture the opponent’s king.  Students would have analyze their opponent’s pieces, predict moves, and decide where they need to place their own pieces.  This is a great substitute to the video game stimulation they often receive on a daily basis. It is a game that takes a lot of patience to play, but has tons of benefits.  I like this idea and more states should consider adopting a plan similar to it.
