Transparency….Is it a good thing?

From this article, I found out the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of being transparent.   When we start a class each year with our students we want to know everything there is to know about them like their background home life, strengths, weaknesses, goals, tec.  This knowledge will help us design better instruction for the year.  However, it is never that easy.  It takes some effort and hard work to design instruction, analyze the work of students, and create an academic profile for each student.

The transparency issue though good in that respect is not so great for other reasons.  For one, there are some thing I store in my long term memory of my brain that I would not like to expose to the rest of the world.  I’m sure other people would say the same thing.  Two, there some others out there with some sick interests that I would not care to know about it.  However, the upside to that is if those interests had anything to do with our students, then action could be taken to prevent any harm.
