Do Goals & Objectives Change When You Take a Class Online?

The answer to the question of whether goals & objectives should change when you move from a face-to-face classroom to an online classroom can best be conveyed in a metaphor about shopping.  When we go out to shop for anything really you a goal in mind of picking an item.  You want to look at it, consider whether it is something you want to buy, and take it to the register to check out.  When you go to an online online store you do the same thing.  You look at pictures of an item and the description for it, consider whether it is something you want to buy, and take it to the check out area.  While the process may be different for the online and offline way to shop, the goals and objectives remain in tact of you wanting to purchase that particular item.

The goals and objectives that we decide to create for our students do not require a specific environment for students to reach them.  They are versatile and go can go back and forth between a face-to-face classroom and an online one.  The difference may lie in the means to which students will meet the goals and objectives laid before them, but they can obtain the same amount of knowledge and learning in both forums.
