School of Rock!

This article talks student interest and helps students learn English.  Schools are beginning to use iPods to help students with limited English skills by using rock songs and letting the students either mouth the words or sing them aloud in the class.  This does a couple of things.  One, it is tapping into student interests by taking music they like and letting them sing in class.  Two, even if the students don’t know all the words to their favorite songs, they are saying some of the words and getting some of the phonetic concepts down.  Teachers are taking the lyrics to the songs and purposely removing words from them for students to fill in.  Audio books like Harry Potter are being used as well for students to listen to.

When you look at things from the perspective of the student and find out what appeals to them and turn it into a learning experience will always spell out success.
